Project scope and field context
The Ambient Technologies and GeoView Team conducted Geotechnical Drilling and Utility Clearance at the Duke Energy Citrus and Tiger Bay Solar Farms Project Sites. Prior to the geotechnical drilling each of the planned test locations was cleared for underground utilities or other obstructions using GPR, electronic locations and vacuum excavation. Once the locations were cleared the Geotechnical drill rigs were mobilized over the location and performed conventional SPT drilling and sampling in accordance with ASTM standard procedures and soil boring logging were prepared. Split Spoon Sampling was used to obtain soil samples. The challenge at this site is the presence of groundwater at less than 5-ft of depth and the overwhelming presence of sand and mud. At this site the practices of drilling, sampling, and testing introduced substantial bias into some laboratory and field measurements and final geotechnical site characterization. The shallow groundwater and soft mud conditions had a major effect in the process and speed of completing this project and managing the soil samples. Clayey soils had very high plasticity with liquid limit results.
